International E-Waste Day, which is celebrated on October 14, 2026, is experiencing its 9th edition this year and puts a focus on "Fast Tech" devices, small electronic products that have become an integral part of everyday life, but also one of the fastest growing sources of e-waste in the world. The campaign was launched by the WEEE Forum with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of proper electronic waste management.

What is Fast Tech?

The term "Fast Tech" refers to small and often affordable electronic devices that we buy, use and replace faster than ever before. These are headphones, chargers, USB adapters, LED lighting, mini fans, electronic toys, disposable e-cigarettes and many other devices that are often bought impulsively, and after use end up forgotten in drawers or disposed of inappropriately.

Just as "fast fashion" has changed the way we buy clothes, Fast Tech has also changed the attitude towards small electronic devices. The result is millions of products that go out of use every year, while a large number of them are never properly collected or recycled.

Why is this important?

Many citizens still do not recognize small electronic devices as e-waste. Broken headphones, old chargers or faulty adapters often end up in municipal waste, even though they contain valuable materials that can be reused.

Devices containing lithium-ion batteries pose an additional challenge. Their improper disposal can cause fires during waste collection, transport and treatment, endangering the safety of workers and waste management infrastructure.

What can we do?

Regardless of the size or value of the device, any product that uses electricity, has a cable or contains a battery becomes e-waste at the end of its life and requires appropriate disposal.

That is why, on the occasion of International E-Waste Day 2026, we invite citizens to:

• inspect their homes and find old or unused electronic devices,
• hand over e-waste through authorized collection systems,
• contribute to the preservation of valuable resources and the development of the circular economy.

As an authorized operator of the electrical and electronic waste management system in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a member of the WEEE Forum, ZEOS eko-sistem is participating in the celebration of the International E-Waste Day this year as well.

Through educational campaigns, digital content and field activities, we are continuously working to strengthen citizens' awareness of the proper disposal of e-waste. On this page, follow all the activities we will implement on the occasion of the International E-Waste Day 2026.

Small devices may not take up much space, but their impact on the environment can be large. Do not store them in drawers or dispose of them in municipal waste. Return them for recycling and become part of the solution. ♻️
