Gračanica got a new recycling yard: ZEOS strengthens the recycling and environmental protection system with an investment of 20,000 KM
Gračanica, October 15, 2026 – Gračanica has received a new infrastructure for responsible waste management! Thanks to the joint efforts of the ZEOS eco-system, JP KOMUS d.o.o. Gračanica, the City of Gračanica, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Environmental Protection Fund at the site of the Grabovac landfill, in Branilaca Grada bb Street, a new resource center is now available, i.e. a new recycling yard that will allow citizens to hand over waste intended for recycling free of charge.
Citizens can dispose of all categories of waste in the recycling yard, and its working hours are from Monday to Saturday in the period from 07:00 to 15:00.
ZEOS eko-sistem, an authorized operator of the electrical and electronic waste management system in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has allocated approximately 20,000 BAM for the implementation of this project, confirming its long-term commitment to concrete investments in environmental protection, infrastructure development and strengthening of local waste collection systems.
The opening of the recycling yard is an important step forward for Gračanica, but also an example of how quality cooperation between the ZEOS eco-system, utility companies and local authorities can result in lasting benefits for citizens and the environment.
Investing in infrastructure that remains with citizens
The new recycling yard is not just another location for waste disposal. It represents an investment in a system in which waste is properly separated, valuable materials are directed to recycling, and natural resources are preserved for future generations.
By enabling simple and free waste handover, conditions are created for reducing the quantities that end up in landfills, preventing improper disposal and increasing the level of use of materials that can be returned to production processes.
For the ZEOS eco-system, such investments are of particular importance because they enable the principles of circular economy, which are already an integral part of modern European waste management systems, to be applied in the local communities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Our goal is not only to talk about the importance of recycling, but to provide citizens with real opportunities to handle waste responsibly. That is why investments in accessible infrastructure are one of the most important prerequisites for the development of an efficient and sustainable waste management system.
ZEOS and KOMUS – a partnership that brings concrete results
A special value of this project is the long-term cooperation between the ZEOS eco-system and JP KOMUS Gračanica, a company that stands out as a positive example of communal practice in Bosnia and Herzegovina with its activities in the field of selective waste collection.
The director of JP KOMUS Gračanica, Amer Hamidović, pointed out that this company has been continuously working on improving the selective waste collection system since 2013, with a special emphasis on waste separation at the place of its origin.
"With the support of the Environmental Protection Fund, ZEOS, our own funds and the City of Gračanica, we have built a recycling yard where citizens can hand over waste that can be further recycled free of charge. In addition to investing in infrastructure, we are continuously working on educating citizens, especially students in schools, in cooperation with ZEOS. It is important for us to develop awareness of the importance of proper waste disposal and to build habits that contribute to environmental protection from an early age," said Hamidović.
ZEOS: Circular economy begins with concrete actions
The importance of the project and the long-term partnership was also emphasized by the Assistant Director of the ZEOS Eco-System, Elma Babić-Džihanić, emphasizing the importance of continuous investment in local infrastructure and strengthening cooperation with utility companies.
Through its work, the ZEOS eco-system seeks to connect legal obligations, modern European practices and the needs of local communities, creating a system in which citizens and businesses have accessible, reliable and responsible solutions for the delivery of electrical and electronic waste.
The investment of approximately 20,000 BAM in Gračanica is part of such an approach – investment in infrastructure that enables proper waste collection, increases recycling possibilities and contributes to the preservation of valuable secondary raw materials.
Proper collection of electrical and electronic waste is especially important, because old devices, in addition to materials that can be reused, may also contain components that require special treatment. When such waste is handed over through an organized system, its controlled disposal is enabled, the risk of pollution is reduced and conditions for the return of valuable raw materials to the economy are created.
The City of Gračanica supports the development of modern communal infrastructure
The opening of the recycling yard was attended by representatives of the ZEOS eco-system, the director and employees of JP KOMUS Gračanica, Mayor Sadmir Džebo, as well as the director, professors and students of the Mixed Secondary School Gračanica, among whom were members of the school's environmental section.
Mayor Sadmir Džebo congratulated the management and employees of KOMUS on the implementation of the project, emphasizing the importance of joint action for the development of communal infrastructure and environmental protection.
"This is another step towards a cleaner and tidier Gračanica. We provide citizens with simpler and free disposal of waste for recycling, and with further investments and the planned establishment of a sorting plant, we expect further improvement of the waste management system and a reduction in the quantities that end up in landfills", said Džebo.
Young people as drivers of change: E-waste collection action lasts until October 30
The opening of the recycling yard is additionally linked to educational activities aimed at young people, who play a key role in creating long-term habits of responsible waste management.
In Gračanica, the action of collecting electrical and electronic waste for schools is underway, which lasts until October 30, 2026.
This initiative further confirms that the development of recycling infrastructure and education must be carried out together. Infrastructure enables proper waste disposal, while education creates generations who understand why it is important.
Responsible today – a better world tomorrow
With the opening of the recycling yard in Gračanica, ZEOS eco-system and JP KOMUS confirm that sustainable development is built through concrete investments, reliable partnerships and active involvement of the local community.
This project shows that environmental protection is not only a matter of individual responsibility of citizens, but also of the joint obligations of institutions, businesses and organizations that manage waste to provide infrastructure and conditions for proper waste management.
ZEOS eco-system continues its mission of developing an accessible and efficient electrical and electronic waste management system in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, relying on European experiences, partnership cooperation and investments that bring measurable and long-term benefits.
Because waste can only become a resource if we collect it properly. And a clean future begins with concrete actions.
